Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has disclosed that several prominent members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are set to join the APC next week, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This came during a meeting with APC stakeholders in Jos, Plateau State, where Yilwatda described the APC as the “bride of the moment”, welcoming an influx of former opposition members.
Recently, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially joined the APC, while Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri is expected to formalise his defection soon.
Yilwatda pointed out that some ADC members who initially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ADC are now returning to the APC fold. The chairman revealed that many of the incoming politicians have completed their medical screenings and will be officially unveiled next week.
He hinted at the arrival of another significant political figure, who had previously made an early self-introduction in the media. Yilwatda, stressed that members are welcomed irrespective of the time they join, emphasizing that his own rise within the party is a testimony to the inclusive spirit of the party.
The defectors include senators, governors, and National Assembly members, who acknowledged APC as the dominant party in Nigerian politics.
Despite attempts to unify opposition forces under the ADC to challenge the dominance of the APC, the ruling party continues to attract high-profile defectors, gaining grounds ahead of 2027 general elections.
