The Yobe State Police Command has launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body near the fence of the Federal University in Gashua on Friday, October 17, 2025.
According to SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Public Relations Officer, the deceased was identified as 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar from Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Gashua. She was found dressed in a black hijab near the university fence after being reported by Yusuf Baka, a resident of Sabon Daula Ward in the Bade Local Government Area.
Police operatives responded quickly to evacuate the body to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was transported in a vehicle and dumped approximately two kilometres from her residence. The corpse was subsequently released to her family for burial, conducted in accordance with Islamic rites after an autopsy.
Residents leaving close to the area of the scene are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement to help bring clarity to the case and prevent further incidents.
