The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected concerns that defections from opposition parties undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said in an interview that politicians joining the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC) are exercising their constitutional rights.

People are simply exercising their democratic freedom to choose among competing party alternatives, and they are choosing our party – Morka

He dismissed claims that these defections    are targeted toward a one-party system or that the APC is pressuring governors or lawmakers to switch allegiance. He challenged opposition parties to address their internal problems, stressing that leadership failures have driven their members away.

Nobody wants to remain on a sinking ship. No serious politician would stay in a party that offers no hope of redemption – Morka.

‎Morka praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and economic reforms, saying the APC represents hope for Nigeria. He emphasized the improving economic indicators of the nation stressing that inflation has fallen to around 18 percent, therefore improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

‎The APC stated that the party will continue welcoming defectors, framing it as a sign of democratic choice and confidence in its governance.
