Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal during an interview with Arise TV, invited democratic nations and the international community to monitor the 2027 general elections to ensure transparency and credibility.
He made reference to the 2015 elections, stating that international pressure was a factor in the peaceful transition of power from an incumbent to the opposition.
Tambuwal views foreign diplomatic pressure not as interference, but as a necessary check to prevent electoral rigging and ensure a free process.
The intervention of the international community shaped the election of 2015… I expect similar intervention from the international community to make sure elections are free, credible and fair – Senator Aminu Tambuwal
Aside elections, Tambuwal also addressed the controversial U.S. military airstrike that occurred in Sokoto State on Christmas Day, 2025. Tambuwal criticized the lack of legislative oversight regarding foreign military interventions, but acknowledged that the strike appeared to have pushed the Federal Government of Nigeria toward more decisive action against insecurity.
I’m a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The security arrangements between the U.S and the Nigerian Army were not tabled before us. At this level, we should know certain things – Senator Aminu Tambuwal
He called for a well-defined framework between Nigeria and its international partners to ensure such operations are transparent and respect national sovereignty.
