Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has announced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC), with an official defection scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu.

This shift was confirmed on Friday by Dr. Ben Nwoye, the Enugu APC Caretaker Chairman, during a media briefing. Alongside Governor Mbah, several federal and state lawmakers, as well as state executive council members and local government leaders, will formally cross over to the ruling party.

A seven-member caretaker committee has since been appointed to manage the party’s affairs in Enugu. Earlier this year, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also left the PDP for the APC. During their welcome ceremonies, former APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje indicated that more opposition figures were preparing to join the ruling party.

A notable recent defection was that of Senator Kelvin Chukwu from Enugu East, who officially left the Labour Party for APC on October 8. This increased the APC’s presence in the Senate to 73 out of 109 seats, securing a two-thirds majority that will facilitate smoother passage of legislation.

Currently, the Senate is composed of 73 APC senators, 28 from PDP, 4 from Labour Party, 2 from All Progressives Grand Alliance, and one each from the Social Democratic Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party.
