Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assured that the welfare of the Yoruba people will be a key focus in his administration if he becomes president in 2027. Speaking from Abuja on Thursday, he dismissed concerns that his leadership might favour Hausa/Fulani dominance.

Atiku emphasized his deep ties to the Yoruba community through personal and family connections. He described the Yoruba as an extension of his own family, citing his marriage to Titi, a Yoruba woman from Ijesha, since the 1970s, and their four children.

The former deputy president also addressed misconceptions suggesting his presidency could marginalize Yoruba interests. On the contrary, he pledged that the South-West would hold a central role in his policy decisions and governance agenda.

He referred to the plan he hopes to implement as one deeply rooted in unity and inclusiveness. Atiku explained that his longstanding relationships with diverse ethnic groups across Nigeria shows his desire for national harmony beyond tribal lines.

Further, he described his first wife as his “Jewel of Inestimable Value” and recalled how his Yoruba family calls him “Baba Rere,” meaning a good father.

If elected president in 2027, Atiku pledges to keep the South-West at the forefront of his administration’s agenda, ensuring the interests of the Yoruba people remain a top priority.
