Senator Isa Galaudu, who contested Kebbi State’s governorship seat under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019, has officially left the party. His departure came in the wake of the internal conflicts within the PDP, he announced on Monday.

Galaudu, a former representative for Kebbi North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, submitted a formal letter of resignation to the PDP ward chairman in Augie Local Government Area. The seasoned politician cited prolonged turmoil inside the party as the main reason behind his decision.

He described the PDP’s current leadership as being heavily influenced by figures aligned with the nation’s ruling party.

My resignation is effective immediately…it’s clear that the PDP is increasingly dominated by operatives from the national government, which compromises its independence. My decision wasn’t taken lightly. I am committed to serving my people, and right now, that means seeking new political avenues that better reflect my values

Political analysts suggest this development shows deeper divisions that could affect the party’s performance in upcoming elections.

The former senator’s exit follows a period marked by factional disputes and leadership tussles in Kebbi’s PDP chapters, raising questions about the party’s ability to unify ahead of 2027 polls. Observers expect other prominent figures may soon rethink their affiliations if the party fails to resolve its internal conflicts.
