Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while speaking on Sunday, at a service commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, in Port Harcourt, responded to the fresh impeachment attempt by the State House of Assembly, as the noise of those who “do not understand” the direction of the current administration.
The statement by the Governor came after the Rivers State House of Assembly issued a formal notice of impeachment against him and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu on Thursday.
This is the third attempt by the Rivers House of Assembly to remove Governor Fubara since his inauguration in 2023. The Assembly, loyal to Minister Wike, has leveled seven counts of gross misconduct against the governor, including operating without an approved appropriation bill, unauthorized spending, withholding of legislative salaries and the demolition of the legislative complex in 2024.
Meanwhile, Fubara stated that the opposition is ignorant of the agenda of his administration, stressing that he relies on the Supreme God for the stability of the state.
Dogs bark when they don’t understand… the reason I don’t complain is that I know what I have. I have the Supreme, that is God. What is important in our dear state is peace, and we will get it – Governor Siminalayi Fubara
The Governor and Deputy Governor have been given a seven-day ultimatum to respond to the allegations of gross misconduct.
