The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has labeled his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as a “bad child”, while addressing the crowd in Asari-Toru LGA, during his state tour across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.
The primary bone of contention involves the alleged cancellation of a Wike’s recruitment drive for 10,000 Rivers youths by Fubara, a program Wike claims was his gift to the unemployed youths. Fubara and his allies on the other hand, stated that the recruitment process was riddled with irregularities.
I employed over 10,000 Rivers youths but the person we handed over the power to cancel those jobs. A bad child is a bad child. That’s how you know how human beings are – Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister
Wike argued that governance is about continuity. He accused Fubara of deliberately dismantling his predecessor’s legacies.
The Minister also claimed that Fubara has been taking credit for multi-billion naira road projects, such as the Ahoada-Omoku and Emohua-Kalabari roads, for which Wike’s administration had supposedly paid 70% of the costs before the 2023 handover.
This conflict has transitioned from a local rift into a national political anomaly. Recall in late 2025, Governor Fubara defected from the PDP to the APC, which Wike said can’t secure him a second tenure. Governor Fubara remains at odds with Wike, who is currently serving in an APC-led federal cabinet.
