Gunmen on Tuesday launched a late-night attack at exactly 9:00 pm, against the National Park Service facility in Oloka, catching officers on duty by surprise.
While official casualty figures are still being finalized, reports from within the service confirm that five personnel were fatally shot. The attackers retreated into the bush surrounding the park immediately after the attack.
The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, Femi Haruna, alongside other top service chiefs, have been mobilized to the scene to assess the damage and to coordinate a counter-operation to fish out these terrorists in order for them to face the full wrath of the law.
The bodies of some victims were still being recovered from the forest, as of Wednesday afternoon.
CP Femi Haruna has deployed the Mobile Police Force (MPF) and tactical units to saturate the Oriire LGA to prevent further incursions into nearby villages.
