A Kano State High Court has sentenced a man, Ayuba Sani Tumfafi, to ten years imprisonment for the unlawful killing of his friend. The altercation reportedly broke out following a domestic disagreement over waking up for the early morning Fajr prayer.

The presiding judge, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, delivered the final judgement at High Court No. 1 after hearing arguments from both parties. Court proceedings established that a heated dispute erupted between Tumfafi and the deceased, Ibrahim Dan Larai, over the dawn prayer schedule, which escalated and resulted in Ibrahim’s death.

During the trial, the prosecution counsel, Amina Uba Adamu, proved the case by presenting three key witnesses and tendering three exhibits before the court. Meanwhile, Tumfafi, himself, stood in the dock to personally defend himself against the criminal charges.

After evaluating the evidence, Justice Aboki found the defendant guilty of unlawful killing and handed down the ten-year jail term. The court also ordered the convict to pursue both Islamic and Western education while serving his sentence behind bars.
