Speaking on the Morning Show on Arise Television, the EFCC through Wilson Uwuajeren addressed talks regarding the delayed prosecution of the former governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello.
Uwuajeren stated that criminal justice is a critical process that must involve substantial presentation of witnesses and evidence. He stressed that the final declaration of guilt rests solely with the judiciary, and not in the hands of any law enforcement agency.
The responsibility that we owe Nigeria is to be faithful to the charges that we have filed against him… EFCC is not a political party. We are not interested in politics – Wilson Uwuajeren, EFCC Director of Public Affairs
Yahaya Bello, ever since he finished his tenure (2016-2024) as the executive governor of Kogi state, has been facing a series of legal battles.
The EFCC stated that Bello remains innocent under the law, regardless of the gravity of the charges or political allegiance within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Commission also clarified that any disciplinary actions within Bello’s political party, are party affairs and hold no weight in the criminal proceedings.
The prosecution is currently in the phase of presenting witnesses and documentary evidence to support its claims of multi-billion naira diversions.
