The Super Eagles of Nigeria, has secured a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinals on Monday with a 4-0 victory over Mozambique in their Round of 16 match.
Nigeria is the first nation to score four goals in a single match during the 2025 AFCON tournament.
Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed quickly by a goal from Victor Osimhen five minutes later. Osimhen added a third shortly after the halftime break, and Akor Adams sealed the result with a late strike in the 75th minute.

Meanwhile, Mozambique, ranked 102nd in the world, reached the knockout stages for the first time in their history after a group-stage win over Gabon. They started the match as underdogs in their first-ever knockout appearance, but struggled to contain the pace of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Under the management of Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles of Nigeria has maintained a perfect record throughout the competition. This victory is the first in the Super Eagles’ history that they have achieved four consecutive wins in an AFCON competition.
Nigeria will travel to Marrakesh to face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarterfinal scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026.
