Vigilante groups in Yobe State, working alongside the Nigerian military, have apprehended a suspected suicide bomber believed to be part of a larger terror cell.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim, was detained in Damaturu and has confessed to the involvement in the deadly December 24 bombing of Gamboru Market Mosque in Maiduguri, which killed at least 12 people.
Operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters apprehended the suspect in Damaturu before transferring him to military custody in Maiduguri.
The suspect admitted to planting a secondary IED at the entrance of Gamboru Market Mosque while an accomplice detonated a suicide vest inside. Dawn Herald gathered that four other suicide bombers remain at large, having been dispatched to various locations within Maiduguri.

Community leaders praised the Civilian Joint Task Forces for the arrest, stressing that local knowledge remains the most effective tool against insurgents, even as the federal government spends billions on high-tech military hardware.
