Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has officially declared his intention to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Bello made the announcement on Monday, December 29, during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, in Okene.
Addressing a gathering of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and political stakeholders, including the current Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, Bello stated that he had accepted the calls from his people to represent the district at the National Assembly, contesting with the incumbent, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP).
Natasha made history in 2023 as the first female senator from Kogi State after a legal battle that led to the dismissal of Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere of the APC.
Reacting to the news on the Mic On Podcast, Senator Natasha stated;
He’s not my nightmare, rather, I’m his political nightmare. If he is on the ballot, then I would say bring it on
In 2023, Natasha accused then-Governor Bello of excavating roads to her senatorial district to prevent election materials from reaching voters.
Bello is currently embroiled in multiple court cases regarding an alleged ₦80 billion fraud during his tenure as governor, which many argue that these legal issues may affect his eligibility and campaign agenda.
