The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps has arrested 39 suspects who allegedly fled Sokoto State to seek refuge in the forest reserves of Ondo. The suspects were paraded on Tuesday, December 30, in Akure.

The State Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that these individuals abandoned the North after recent United States-backed military strikes on Christmas Day, targeting ISIS-affiliated groups like Lakurawa and ISSP in Sokoto State.

The suspects were intercepted in the Elegbeka forest axis within Ose Local Government Area. Amotekun operatives found the suspects hibernating deep in the woods. To avoid detection, the group had parked their vehicles several miles away from their forest hideouts.

‎Elegbeka is a notorious black spot where the Olufon of Ifon was murdered years ago. Amotekun as a result of this incident, established a permanent control post inside this forest to flush out criminal elements.

‎While the suspects claim they were escaping the heat of the northern military operations, Amotekun is currently profiling them to check for links to terror cells or criminal gangs.

Details later…
