A fatal road traffic crash along the Kano-Zaria Road has claimed the lives of two persons following a collision involving a commercial truck and a private sedan.

The accident occurred at the Dangi Underpass on Tuesday evening, involving a Howo tipper truck loaded with bitumen and a Mercedes-Benz C180. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that four male adults were involved in the incident, resulting in two immediate fatalities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the tragedy was triggered by a brake failure in the tipper truck, causing the driver to lose control. The heavy-duty vehicle subsequently slid backwards, colliding with the Mercedes-Benz positioned directly behind it.

Following the crash, emergency responders promptly evacuated the victims to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

The FRSC Kano Sector Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, while confirming the development in a press statement on Tuesday night, said;

“Preliminary reports indicate that the crash involved a Howo tipper truck with registration number RMG 332 XA, fully loaded with bitumen, and a Mercedes-Benz C180 with registration number ABJ 783 GB. A total of four male adults were involved in the crash, with two persons confirmed dead”.

The Kano Sector Commander, Corps Commander Idris Lawal, expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He warned fleet operators and commercial drivers against neglecting routine vehicle maintenance, and complying with strict defensive driving practices to prevent avoidable highway accidents.
