The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, alongside members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and local government chairmen, has met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at his private residence in Port Harcourt.

The meeting, held on Sunday, comes approximately two weeks after Wike led members of the Rainbow Coalition, including the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2027 general elections, Kingsley Chinda to confer with the governor.

The visit marks the first time the FCT Minister has visited the Rivers Governor at his private residence after months of political reconciliation talks.

Wike led a delegation comprising key members of the state legislature, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, as well as the chairmen of all 23 local government areas in the state to meet with Fubara and his supporters.

The APC standard bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, was also part of the visiting delegation.

Although specific details of the closed-door meeting were not officially disclosed, according to PUNCH, the visit aimed to build on previous talks, strengthen peace building, and explore mechanisms to accommodate Fubara’s loyalists in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

Fubara and the Amaewhule-led House of Assembly had been locked in a political dispute for over two years, due to a protracted fallout between the governor and his predecessor, Wike.

During the political crisis, lawmakers loyal to Wike made two separate attempts to impeach Governor Fubara before President Bola Tinubu stepped in to mediate.

The deteriorating situation prompted intervention by President Tinubu, who declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State in March 2025.

That presidential declaration led to the temporary suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly, with Ibok-Ete Ibas appointed as administrator before the elected officials were reinstated.

Sunday’s meeting is considered significant as it brought together key actors in the prolonged crisis, including the executive, the legislative leadership, and local government chairmen aligned with Wike.

The renewed dialogue between the executive arm and the legislative structure is expected to help stabilize the political atmosphere in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
