The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, immediately after presidential directives to flush out insurgents and rescue all abducted citizens across the country.
Lieutenant General Shuaibu arrived at the Headquarters of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, inside Maimalari Cantonment at about 11:00 am on Saturday to hold strategic operational sessions with theatre, field, and unit commanders across the state.
The visit follows a security meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, confirmed that clear mandates were issued to all service chiefs and security heads.
“The directive from the President is: all of us must go all out to fish out and rescue all those that have been abducted, kidnapped, wherever they are. There shouldn’t be any camp of any terrorists or bandits anywhere in Nigeria,” the defence minister stated.
Besides clearing illegal camps nationwide, the military high command is tasked with maintaining security coverage across all operational theatres to guarantee a safe environment ahead of the general elections scheduled for January.
