The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of three men in Kuje Correctional Centre for allegedly impersonating popular blogger, Adekunle Tunde Olaoluwa, popularly known as Tunde Ednut, to defraud the public of ₦18.26 million.
The defendants, Raymond Charles Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim, and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim, were arraigned on Thursday before Justice S. O. Ibrahim on a three-count charge on conspiracy to commit fraud, impersonation, and obtaining money by false pretence.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the illicit operation was executed in the Abuja between April and June 2026. The EFCC stated before the court that the alleged offences contravene the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
The prosecution revealed that the suspects deliberately opened multiple bank accounts using the influencer’s identity to receive illicit funds from their victims. After pleading not guilty, the prosecution counsel, Elizabeth Alabi, requested a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendants pending the hearing.
Justice Ibrahim granted the prosecution’s request, ordering that the three suspects remain in the custody of the Kuje Correctional Centre. The presiding judge subsequently adjourned the substantive matter to November 17, 2026, for trial.
This development follows a similar judicial proceeding before another judge, Justice M. A. Madugu, where the EFCC previously charged Ibrahim and a co-defendant for a related scheme. In that earlier case, the suspects allegedly opened an Access Bank account in Ednut’s name, fraudulently obtaining ₦5.3 million from the public within a single week in April 2026.
