The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of bribing its election candidates with cash and political appointments to induce their defection ahead of upcoming polls.

In response, the opposition party announced plans to immediately conduct fresh congresses across affected constituencies to replace the defected candidates in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

“In line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, the party will immediately conduct fresh congresses to elect credible, competent, and trustworthy candidates to replace the defectors in the affected constituencies,” Director added.

The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, describing the defectors as individuals lacking ideological commitment to the party.

“The NDC is fully aware of the desperate and malicious tactics of the APC, which has resorted to offering money, political appointments, and other material incentives to induce some money-minded candidates of our party to jump ship and defect to its sinking fold”.

The party also stated that those who yielded to the inducements were never genuinely aligned with its core values.

The NDC urged party members to remain calm, describing the actions of the ruling party as the desperate moves of a sinking political platform.
