Islamic scholar, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, on Friday, has called on the Federal Government to cut all military ties with the United States over the Christmas airstrikes in Sokoto State.

Gumi stated that the Christmas Day airstrikes against ISIS terrorists in Sokoto is a dangerous infringement on the sovereignty of Nigeria and a blunder that could turn the country into a global theatre of war.

Gumi stated that inviting the United States will attract anti-American extremist groups to Nigerian and deepen religious divisions.

‎Gumi stated that the Christians genocide narrative pushed by the Trump administration is a pretext that will divide Nigeria along faith lines.

He accused the United States of having a history stained with the blood of innocent civilians, emphasizing that terrorism should be fought by holy hands.

The U.S. involvement in Nigeria will attract real anti-U.S. forces, making our land a theatre of war… coming under the pretext of protecting Christians will polarise our nation. Annihilating terrorists is an Islamic obligation… but it should only be carried out by clean, holy hands, not by another terrorist whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of thousands of Innocent children – Gumi

Gumi suggested that if Nigeria must seek external help, it should pivot toward countries like China, Turkey, or Pakistan, which he views lacks the geopolitical baggage of the West

‎He also stated that dropping a few bombs is a political gimmick and that only ground operations by the Nigerian army can truly defeat terrorism.

‎Gumi warned that the handling of this foreign intervention by the government will become a major political issue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
