The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in a statement issued on Friday, December 26, by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, has officially stated that the recent airstrikes in Sokoto, was a joint operation with the United States, aimed at targeting foreign ISIS-linked cells that have attempted to establish a foothold in the northern region.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) clarified that the operation, carried out on Christmas day in Sokoto State, was the result of weeks of joint collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, aimed towards disrupting the logistics and operational capacity of these extremist groups. Major General Uba emphasized that the strikes were carefully planned to minimize collateral damage.

The DHQ confirmed that the strikes were conducted with the approval from both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump.
The operation was carried out with the United States Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities integrated with Nigerian intelligence, a level of cooperation not seen since the A-29 Super Tucano deployment.
