The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially inaugurated 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and launched a ₦1 billion economic empowerment programme for 5,000 residents in Edo State.
The event, which held on Thursday in Benin City, made beneficiaries receive ₦200,000 each to scale their small businesses and support their livelihoods. Governor Monday Okpebholo hosted the First Lady, describing the roll-out as a necessary intervention needed to ease the economic realities faced by residents.
Senator Tinubu stated that the newly deployed vehicles would improve local transit, while the financial grants would create economic opportunities for women and youths. She commended the state government for prioritizing citizen welfare and taking actionable steps to support economic growth.
“I am glad to be in Edo today after quite a long time for the commissioning of 50 compressed natural gas buses for the benefit of the people. I pray that the monies received will prosper in your hands and grow your businesses.”
Meanwhile, Governor Okpebholo promised to ensure good governance reaches every community across the state. He assured residents that the CNG buses would provide a more affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation alternative.
The governor also expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued leadership, stating that empowering local demographics remains central to the state’s development agenda.
