The Turaki-led faction has accused INEC of hypocrisy and bias after the electoral body officially declined to recognize the officers elected at the Party’s convention held in Ibadan last month.
Through its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party stated that there is no faction in the PDP, stressing that the NWC elected in Ibadan remains the only legitimate administrative structure.
INEC has continuously shown bias in this matter… failing or refusing to file documents that were in their possession… obviously to aid those who are bent on killing the PDP – Ini Ememobong, PDP National Publicity Secretary
The dispute started before the Ibadan Elective National Convention on November 15-16, 2025. While PDP Governors and the Board of Trustees (BoT) rallied behind Turaki, a rival group led by Nyesom Wike (FCT Minister) and Senator Samuel Anyanwu challenged the legality of the convention.
Federal High Court rulings in late 2025 had sought to stop the convention, but the party proceeded regardless. INEC’s recent refusal to update its records is based on these subsisting judgments. Meanwhile, the Turaki camp argues that INEC is suppressing the fact that it actually monitored the NEC meetings that approved the convention.
The Turaki camp also stated that because the Governors’ Forum, BoT, and National Assembly Caucuses all recognize them, the Wike-aligned group, which appointed a 60-day caretaker committee on December 8, cannot legally be termed a faction.
INEC Secretary Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony stated the commission is bound by Section 287(3) of the Constitution to obey existing court orders until they are set aside, despite the pending appeals of the Turaki camp.
