Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi on Wednesday, filed a complaint at the Chief Magistrate Court in Kaduna against two Facebook users, George Udom and Bello Isiaka.

Gumi alleges the defendants used their accounts to circulate a fake news bulletin claiming he planned to eliminate the Defence Minister’s family in Southern Kaduna if military offensives against bandits did not cease.

The post, dated December 23, alleged that Gumi warned Minister Musa that his entire family in Zango Kataf would be eliminated if the offensive against bandits continued. Gumi’s legal team, led by Suleiman Danlami Lere, Esq., states that the allegation is a deliberate attempt to depict the cleric as a terrorist sympathizer and incite the state against him.

Under suit number KMD/685/25, Gumi is seeking the prosecution of the users for conspiracy, criminal disturbance, and defamation of character under the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017.

‎Gumi stated that the suit is aimed towards ending the era of hiding behind a smartphone to destroy the reputations of people;
