A group of 28 travellers, including women, children, and prominent local figures, were abducted by gunmen in the Zak community of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Sunday night, as the victims were journeying to attend a Maulud event in the Sabon Layi.
The victims were travelling in a vehicle belonging to the community leader of Zak when they were intercepted at 8:00 p.m. on the outskirts of the village. The gunmen abandoned the empty vehicle, which was discovered by passersby the following morning.
