The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed on Monday, December 22nd, that nine people were killed at Kaltungo-Cham road at Kaluwa in Gombe State, at approximately 8:33 a.m., in an accident.
The crash involved a heavy-duty trailer and a commercial Sharon bus. Eighteen people were involved in the incident, five survivors are currently receiving treatment for severe injuries, while four individuals escaped the wreckage unhurt.
According to initial investigations by the FRSC, the accident was caused by excessive speed and brake failure. Dawn Herald gathered that the trailer was traveling at a high speed on a downward slope and was unable to stop before striking the bus from behind. The force from the trailer made the passenger bus to somersault multiple times, which led to the death of the nine passengers.
The Survivals were taken to Kaltungo General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
