A kidnapped couple, Ahmed Abubakar Zakka, his wife, and their six-month-old daughter, Fatima, have regained their freedom after spending over a week in captivity.
The family was abducted on October 6 by armed men who invaded their residence in Millennium City, located within the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. They were released on Thursday and are currently safely en route to the Kaduna metropolis.
Prior to their release, a troubling video showing Zakka and his infant daughter in the custody of their abductors went viral on social media, igniting debates amongst Nigerians.
While state security agencies have yet to release a statement on the incident, a retired security officer who coordinated the rescue mission, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the development:
“Yes, they are on their way back home with my driver. It was the efforts of my team and some private individuals that led to their release.”
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to track down the fleeing suspects responsible for the abduction.
