Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has officially unveiled the Tesla Roadster 2, a modified electric sports car that integrates aerospace technology to fly, hover, and perform complex aerial maneuvers.

The prototype was demonstrated on Thursday at the SpaceX rocket development and testing facility in Texas, United States. During the remote-controlled test flight, the vehicle utilized advanced rocket thrusters to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than one second. The demonstration showcased the car driving up a curved ramp using suction technology to grip the surface, before deploying jets to leap over a lineup of older Tesla models and execute a mid-air flip.

The futuristic two-seater is slated for commercial production in 2028, with standard models priced above $200,000. Prospective buyers are required to drop a $250,000 deposit for the high-end thrust edition, while an exclusive one-seater rocket variant equipped with a full flight system remains strictly by invitation and banned from public highways.

Musk confirmed that engineers operated the initial test flight remotely to completely eliminate the risk of casualties. While he confidently pitched the thruster-equipped vehicle to the crowd as a car that can basically fly like a rocket, the tech billionaire, however, admitted that the rocket-powered vehicle may face regulatory hurdles across various global jurisdictions.
