Hundreds of Kwankwasiyya Movement supporters on Friday staged a peaceful protest in Kano to protest the omission of Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo from the candidate list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy governorship candidate, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, the demonstrators marched to the INEC state headquarters in Kano, where they submitted a petition to show their grievances.
Spokesperson for the group, Dr. Habib Mohammed, alleged that an internal official at the commission collaborated with external actors to process unauthorized letters with forged signatures, leading to the illegal substitution of their standard-bearer.
Receiving the delegation, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Abdu Zango, praised the group for their orderly conduct and pledged to transmit the petition to the national headquarters in Abuja for executive review.
“We received all the complaints and assured the delegation that their petition will receive the necessary attention. We are going to forward it to our national headquarters for consideration,” Zango stated.
The electoral body reminded the leaders of the party that a legitimate window for administrative appeals remains open until October 24 to address candidate nomination disputes.
