Private jet nose gear collapses during landing at Kano Airport

‎A private jet operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited crash-landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, on Sunday, December 14. The incident occurred when the aircraft experienced a malfunction during its final approach and landing roll.

The aircraft, a Hawker 800XP private jet with registration number 5N-ISB, was operating a non-scheduled domestic passenger flight from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to Kano. The incident took place at approximately 10:34 am.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the aircraft was carrying a total of eight persons on board, which comprises five passengers and three crew members, contradicting earlier unconfirmed reports of 11 occupants.

The flight crew stated that a landing gear indication anomaly during the approach phase into Kano. Air traffic controllers confirmed that all three landing gears appeared fully extended after the crew requested multiple low passes over the runway. However, the nose landing gear collapsed during the landing roll on Runway 06.

‎Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited stated that the flight crew followed all established operational and safety procedures, bringing the aircraft to a safe stop despite the operational issue.

‎The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has activated its Go-Team to commence a formal investigation into the incident, to examine the systems of the aircraft, operational procedures, and maintenance records.

‎The NSIB has assured the public that the investigation is strictly aimed at identifying safety issues and preventing future occurrences, not for apportioning blame.
