Fresh protests erupted in Numan Local Government Area (LGA), Adamawa State, on Tuesday following allegations that the Nigerian Army personnel killed at least seven women during a protest aimed towards resolving the communal clashes in Lamurde LGA on Monday.

Dawn Herald reported that the demonstrators, primarily women carrying leaves, accused the military of a delayed and biased intervention in favor of the Chobo community, which later led to tragic confrontation.

Reports indicate seven women died, four on the spot, three later at the hospital and 11 others were injured. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Numan General Hospital.

‎Bwalason Samson, an eyewitness, claimed that  the military personnel on ground fired into the crowd of unarmed women at a close range.

Meanwhile the Army, through Captain Olusegun Abidoye, described the allegation as false and baseless, stating their objective was to restore peace and prevent militants from burning down the local government secretariat.

The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde to restore order and deployed security operatives to enforce compliance.

‎Kwamoti B. Laori, the Member of the House of Representatives for the affected constituency, condemned the killings, demanding for a transparent, and independent investigation into the deaths, stressing that those responsible must be held accountable.
