The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Abubakar, for allegedly attempting to procure a huge supply of ammunition intended for bandits operating in Zamfara State.
Abubakar, originally from Gusau, Zamfara, but residing at Anguwan Dodo, in Gwagwalada, Abuja, was apprehended by police operatives of the Mabushi Division on December 7, following an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect’s plan was exposed after he allegedly attempted to bribe a serving military officer to illegally purchase the ammunition. The suspect allegedly contacted a Nigerian Army personnel, Corporal Yusuf Mohammed, seeking to procure 1,000 rounds of ammunition intended for use by bandits in Zamfara.
Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that Abubakar confessed during interrogation that he was acting on the instructions of his uncle, Ahmed Yakubu, who is also connected to the Gusau/Gwagwalada address but is currently on the run.
The FCT Police Command after receiving this tip, acted on the credible intelligence to effect the arrest. The police recovered ₦170,100 from the suspect, believed to be part of the funds earmarked for the illegal purchase. Abubakar is currently in custody undergoing investigation. Efforts are underway to track down and apprehend his fleeing accomplice, Ahmed Yakubu.
