Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has announced that his refinery is now ready to deliver 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) daily, ending the era of fuel queues in Nigeria.

‎Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Friday, Dangote also unveiled plans to expand the refinery’s capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2028, which would make it the largest single-train refinery in the world.

‎The declared 50 million litres daily supply exceeds Nigeria’s estimated national consumption. Dangote projects a surplus of 15-20 million litres by February, which will be exported to other West African countries, to stabilize the energy market of the region.

Historically, Nigeria has battled fuel queues since 1972. For the first time, we are eliminating those queues, not through imports but by producing locally… I can assure you that queues are now history. What we are going to do by 2028 we are going to take this refinery to the largest refinery in the world we’re going to beat Reliance… we will be at 1.4 million barrels per day – Dangote

To bypass logistical bottlenecks at existing ports like Apapa and Tin Can, the Group is developing what is billed to be West Africa’s largest deep-sea port at Olokola, with completion expected within two-and-a-half years.

‎Dangote restates support for the government’s naira-for-crude policy, describing it as a patriotic move to strengthen the local currency, despite resistance from international oil companies.
