Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a socio-cultural association for Fulani pastoralists, has claimed that its members have been the victims of a 25 year “genocide” across Nigeria, in response to allegations of a targeted Christian genocide in the country.

‎Engr. Saleh Alhassan, the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah, stated on Thursday that if there is genocide in Nigeria, it is the deliberate targeting, killing, and displacement of Fulani pastoralists since the return to democracy in 1999. He criticized groups making claims of Christian genocide, as “genocide town criers” seeking international attention and foreign aid.

Alhassan claimed that Fulani pastoralists have been subjected to violence across states like Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, and Kebbi. He alleged that pastoralists have suffered attacks in Kebbi, Niger, and Benue States in the last three weeks, particularly after the recent international comments about religious violence in Nigeria.

‎He accused some state governors of enacting laws that have “criminalised pastoralism,” contributing to the displacement and attacks on their communities.

‎He made reference of the bishop who took the reports of violence to the United States, stressing that he failed to contextualise the actual conflict and was primarily seeking foreign aid.

‎He questioned the bypassing of established Nigerian institutions like the National Human Rights Commission and the Senate, by some groups , stressing that Miyetti Allah has not been invited by the Senate to discuss its memorandum on the farmer-herder crisis.
