Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the Ndigbo community as the “greatest stakeholders in the Nigerian project,” due to their presence and economic influence across the major economic hubs of the country.
Speaking at the Imo Economic Stakeholders Summit in Owerri on Thursday, December 4, the Vice President delivered his message on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, to reassure the Ndigbo community of the commitment of the government in creating an enabling environment for their enterprise and regional development.
The Vice President stated that half of Abuja is owned by Ndigbo and also half of the population of Lagos, is largely made up of Ndigbo. He acknowledged that the presence of Ndigbo is almost universal across Nigeria, stating that, “If you don’t see them, you better run away from that place.”
He described the Igbo as geographically mobile, economically enterprising, and educationally ambitious.
The summit, themed ‘Unlocking Imo’s Economic Potential: Partnership, Investment and Innovation’, was organized by the Imo State Government under Governor Hope Uzodimma to attract investment and foster development.
The Vice President emphasized that modern economies thrive on technology and innovation, rather than solely on natural resources.
Governor Uzodinma praised President Tinubu’s economic reform policies, stating that Imo State has keyed into them, utilizing its resources and landmass to create an environment for investors.
The event drew global and regional dignitaries, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and industrialist Aliko Dangote.
