President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially swore in the former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd.), as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The swearing-in ceremony follows the Senate’s confirmation of General Musa on Wednesday after he underwent a rigorous screening process. He succeeded Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned earlier in the week due to ill health.
The appointment of General Christopher Musa, was aimed towards addressing the surge of security challenges across Nigeria, including persistent insurgency, banditry, and mass kidnappings. His operational experience, including his tenure as the Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025, is seen as a key factor in his nomination.
General Musa is to assume the responsibility of overseeing Nigeria’s defense and security strategy, to speed up the implementation of his zero tolerance objectives to flush out terrorists and to end the reoccurring killings, that has plaque the country for over a decades now.
