Five students of the Rivers State University (RSU) who were kidnapped from their off-campus residences in Emohua Local Government Area have been successfully rescued unhuted by the Rivers State Police Command.

The victims Prince London, Azubuike Kelechukwu, Elizabeth Aniete, Onyebuchi Precious, and London Sampson, were rescued after a successful combined security operation supported by intelligence of the off campus residents.

Dawn Herald previously reported that the police preliminary investigations point to the involvement of suspected cultists from a neighboring community.

The intervention by security agencies and community leaders played a critical role in their rescue. The Youth President of Rumuohia reportedly confronted the leadership of the neighboring community and issued a deadline for the release of the students, which residents believe helped fast-track the rescue.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the synergy among the police officers and the community in facilitating the rescue. The police confirmed that while the suspects fled before officers reached the hideout, credible intelligence by the off campus residents led to the rescue of the five students adopted, including the arrest of a local collaborator.

The command will not rest until all those responsible are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law – CP Olugbenga Adepoju

‎The rescued students have been taken to the hospital for a medical examination, and police assurance has been given to the public to go about their lawful businesses without fear.
