The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Plateau State has expressed concern over the extremely low rate of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) collection, despite having over 100,000 cards ready for distribution.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Mohammed Sadiq lamented the turnout at a stakeholders meeting in Jos on Wednesday, revealing that only a fraction of the available cards have been claimed in the past three months.
The commission emphasized that collecting the PVC is a fundamental requirement for participating in the 2027 general elections.
The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is charged by Nigeria’s Electoral Act to ensure that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to register and vote.
INEC announced the timeline for essential pre-election activities, including the display of the preliminary register from December 15 to 21, 2025, for voters to check for errors, and the commencement of the second phase of CVR on January 5, 2026.
