The Senate has confirmed the nomination of General Christopher Musa (retd.), the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), as the new Minister of Defence, just one day after he was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The confirmation followed a rigorous five-hour screening session in the Senate chambers on Wednesday, where General Musa pledged to prioritize national security and investigate any military misconduct, including allegations of troop withdrawal before recent attacks.
We are going to investigate fully. The Armed Forces have a way, and then from the defence, we are going to make sure that we continue with the oversight over their activities…I pledge to do my best to ensure that Nigeria is secure and safe… The enemies we are dealing with are evil forces that don’t mean well for this country and have no respect for human lives – General Musa
He stressed that the military is not known for cowardice, pledged to go after them, while working with all security agencies and government ministries.
Musa emphasized that protecting lives and national territory requires the collective effort from all Nigerians, stating that the enemies are evil forces that don’t mean well for this country.
General Musa was nominated to replace Alhaji Badaru Mohammed, who resigned as Defence Minister on Tuesday, due to health grounds.
