President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday administered the oath of office to the new Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, two NPC commissioners, and five Federal Permanent Secretaries at the State House, Abuja.
The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Council Chamber just before the President convened the eighth Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of the year. The appointments aim to strengthen the nation’s civil service and its demographic planning agency.
FEC commenced its meeting by observing a minute of silence in honor of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Joy Ogwu, who died on October 13, 2025, at the age of 79.
The appointments are aimed towards improving data collection and administrative efficiency across various government ministries.
The NPC is the agency responsible for overseeing national censuses, births and deaths registration and collecting demographic data essential for national development planning and policy formulation.
Dr. Aminu Yusuf, was appointed on October 9, confirmed by the Senate in October 2025, alongside two members of the commission who were also sworn in, including Dr. Tonga Betara (Yobe State).
Five Permanent Secretaries, who represent the highest-ranking non-political administrators in the civil service, were also sworn in. They are: Abdulkarim Ibrahim, Dr. John Ezeamama,
Dr. Abdul-Sule Garba (or Dr. Abdul Sule Usman Garba), Dr. Isiaku Mohammed, (or Dr. Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed), Dr. Ukaire Chigbowu.
