General Christopher Musa (retd.), the newly confirmed Minister of Defence, during his Senate screening on Wednesday, acknowledged the expectations from Nigerians on his appointment, stressing that he cannot afford to fail the nation in restoring peace.

The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff thanked President Bola Tinubu for the appointment. He vowed to enforce strategies to ending the consistent killings and insecurity plaguing the country.

On expectations, I can tell you, I am also feeling the heat; because when I see the reactions after my name was mentioned, I knew that I could not afford to fail myself, fail my nation, fail my family. The enemies we are dealing with are evil forces that don’t mean well for this country and have no respect for human lives… It is when we allow them to have gaps that they penetrate.

‎General Musa’s appointment, which many Nigerians see as well deserved, come at a time of worsening security challenges, including persistent insurgency in the North East, banditry, and mass kidnappings. His operational background as the former Chief of Defence Staff and Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East, makes his appointment well deserved.
