The Sokoto State Government has sealed a campaign office belonging to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over an ownership dispute and the need to restore order.
The state government stated that the measure was necessary to forestall further disturbances and safeguard lives following a recent clash involving party supporters.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Dantsoho, made the announcement on Monday, revealing that the disputed facility originally belonged to the defunct Savannah Bank, with no documented change of ownership to date.
Dantsoho explained that the state has formally contacted the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), the custodian of the property, seeking clarification on its current status.
The premises will remain sealed while investigations are ongoing and pending a formal response from the agency.
“Following a review of the certificate of occupancy and other relevant documents, we discovered that this property belongs to the Savannah Bank, and that ownership has not changed as of today. We have written to the NDIC, the custodian of this building, to clarify its present ownership, but we are yet to receive a response.”
The Commissioner urged anyone with a legitimate claim to the building to present relevant documents for verification. He warned that any attempt to forcefully access the sealed premises would be met with appropriate legal action and prosecution.
