The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified and isolated two suspected cases of the Ebola virus disease in the North-East region.
Health authorities have commenced contact tracing and listing in the affected area, while laboratory tests are currently being conducted on the isolated individuals to determine their exact medical status.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the NCDC warned the public against treating the development as confirmed infections, stating that confirmation remains subject to pending laboratory results.
“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results.”
Following the development, the health agency urged calm and advised Nigerians to maintain strict hand hygiene and practice proper sanitation.
The NCDC added that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that updates will be provided as verified information becomes available.
