The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of a ₦50,000 monthly cash relief to vulnerable households to cushion the impacts of rising living costs.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, announced the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) on Friday in Abuja. The presidential initiative targets millions of Nigerians currently battling global food inflation and the surging prices of essential commodities.

According to the minister, the government is partnering with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure and transparent delivery of funds directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts or mobile wallets.

“Under this intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly, providing direct assistance to help meet essential needs and ease the burden of living costs.”

Doro explained that citizens are not required to apply, pay any processing fees, or register through agents. Eligible beneficiaries will receive text messages from designated financial providers requesting their consent before the payments are processed.

The minister however, warned, the public to remain vigilant, advising anyone who receives suspicious messages or demands for money to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222. The ministry also warned citizens to beware of fraudsters and never disclose their Bank Verification Numbers or personal identification numbers to access the funds.
