Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have uncovered an illegal diesel refinery operating secretly in Kano State.
The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects allegedly involved in an unregistered petroleum and gas business.
The illicit facility, located in Panisau, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, was raided by operatives drawn from various units of the command.
The arrested suspects were identified as Ibrahim Bello, (28), Musbahu Adam, (38), Rabiu Dahiru, (27), Haruna Kabiru, (26) and Sunusi Ahmad, (25).
In a statement issued on Friday, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Kano, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests and the closure of the site.
“The facility has been sealed, while investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the alleged activities”.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, stated that the joint operation is aimed at combating economic sabotage and enforce regulations governing petroleum and gas operations across the state.
