President Bola Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), forwarding their names to the Senate for confirmation.

The nominations, which include three reappointments and three new appointments, are for a five-year term each.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the nominations in a statement on Friday.

According to a letter addressed to the Senate, the renominated directors are Abiodun Adeniji (Finance and Accounts); Ogbugo Ukoha (Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure); and Dr. Mustapha Lamorde (Health, Safety, Environment and Community).

The three new nominees are Mobolaji Musa (Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure); Ogechukwu Modie (Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning); and Said Abutalib (Corporate Services and Administration).

President Tinubu stated that expedited confirmation by the Senate is necessary to ensure institutional continuity and strengthen the Authority’s oversight functions.

The President also approved the appointment of Mrs. Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board and Legal Adviser, pending the completion of statutory processes outlined in Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.

These nominations follow the appointment of Rabiu Umar as the Chief Executive of the NMDPRA in April.
