President Bola Tinubu has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) praised the role of the agency in tackling international sextortion crimes against minors.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday. He confirmed that the FBI Director, Kash Patel, sent a letter of commendation to the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

The FBI acknowledged the contribution of the commission to Operation Artemis, a joint law enforcement investigation targeting criminal networks involved in child sexual exploitation and extortion. The operation resulted in the arrest and extradition of two Nigerian suspects in August 2026.

“The successful outcome of these cases would not have been possible without your assistance and dedication to international law enforcement collaboration.”

President Tinubu praised the EFCC leadership for its professionalism, stressing that his administration remains determined to build strong, results-oriented institutions across the country.

“Nigeria must never become a haven for criminals who exploit innocent people, whether at home or abroad…Our law enforcement and anti-corruption institutions have my full support to pursue offenders and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.”

The President also added that the FBI’s recognition aligns with Nigeria’s recent removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list and the European Union’s high-risk financial jurisdictions list. He urged the EFCC to sustain its current momentum in protecting citizens and holding criminals accountable.
