The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has alleged that individuals attacking President Bola Tinubu and his supporters on social media are being financially sponsored to spread propaganda against the current administration.

Akpabio made the declaration in Abuja on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the Arewa Revival Project, a northern youth organisation spanning 19 states, led by its coordinator, Mustafa Ibrahim. During the courtesy visit to the National Assembly, the youth group presented an award to the Senate President in recognition of his contributions to national development.

Addressing the delegation, the Senate President charged the youths to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the northern region to secure huge support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. He admonished them to educate citizens on the long-term benefits of the policies of the administration to counter online misinformation.

“Whatever we are doing today, we are doing it to stabilise your future and ensure the survival of Nigeria. So it is good that you are seeing it. It is not going to be easy for you because most of those who are attacking the President and attacking these young men on social media are being paid. You are not being paid,” Akpabio alleged.

Akpabio stated that competing with paid critics online might be difficult due to the time and energy required. Instead, he advised the group to foster periodic community engagements to reveal the truth about the operational successes of the government.

“You may not be able to have the kind of energy and time with them. But once in a while, gather the youth together and let them see the truth and know the truth. That attacking government that is working well for them, trying to bring uncertainty is not the best,” he stated.

Akpabio revealed that the administration is diversifying the national economy away from its dependence on crude oil revenues. He made reference to the ongoing tax reforms and the systematic overhaul of outdated legislation as evidence of progressive governance.

“I expect the Nigerian youth to rise above social media propaganda because this President has managed to take us out of a mono-economy, an economy that was dependent only on crude oil. He has brought innovations to bear through the tax reform system, through tinkering with anachronistic laws,” Akpabio explained.

Akpabio also stated that federal lawmakers are fully satisfied with the performance of the administration, confirming that the National Assembly has officially endorsed President Tinubu for a second term in office.
